Mariah Carey, a renowned American pop star, is set to grace the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics with her performance. The local organizing committee recently revealed that the 56-year-old singer will be the first international artist to take the stage at Milan’s San Siro soccer stadium on Feb. 6.
In an Instagram post, Carey expressed her excitement by saying, “Ci vediamo a Milano” (See you in Milan). The committee highlighted Carey’s ability to capture the emotional essence of the Games’ anticipation, emphasizing how music serves as a universal language that resonates with various backgrounds and aligns with the ceremony’s theme of harmony.
The Winter Olympics will be held across multiple locations in northern Italy, including Cortina, Predazzo, Livigno, and the San Siro Stadium, accommodating 60,000 spectators. The Olympic flame will illuminate two iconic sites – the Arco della Pace in central Milan and the main Piazza Dibona in Cortina.
To promote inclusivity, the Parade of Nations will be decentralized, allowing athletes from diverse disciplines to engage in the ceremony. The closing ceremony, scheduled for Feb. 22 at Verona’s ancient Roman Arena, will feature internationally acclaimed ballet star Roberto Bolle as the headliner.
Similar to past editions, the opening ceremonies promise to deliver a star-studded affair. Notably, Lady Gaga adorned in pink feathers and Aya Nakamura graced the stage at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, where Céline Dion concluded the event with a much-anticipated performance.
